Adidas Originals x Alexander Wang A/W 2018

When’s payday?

POSTED BY ALISHA CADOGAN

Returning for its 4th season, Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang will be launching on the 14th of November.

The collection is inspired by the idea of repurposing and recontextualizing garments.

Wang has edited the most iconic elements of past seasons from the collaboration while splicing them with fragments from the Adidas archive through a photocopy process.

This means that the collection is imperfect, off-kilter, and slightly disjointed. Each piece is in Wang’s personal style.

Included in the collection are track tops, dresses, shorts, puffers and crop tops, which feature naïve seaming, contrasting inserts, spliced logos, upside down brand flags, and other wrong details. These flaws are used to join the disconnected pieces.

The collection is defined by three stories: photocopy, disjoin and AW essentials. The photocopy range melds Wang signatures with iconic adidas football jerseys. The disjoint range combines rich velour with jersey and nylon along with the adidas logo. The AW essentials feature fundamental silhouettes created with mixed materials, referring to an athleisure look through iconic cuts.

In footwear, the AW Skate Super revisits a tooling from season one, which is now combined with an adidas superstar upper and trimmed with thick 1980 style laces. Its shell toe is turned inside-out to show its bar code.

The chunky 70s inspired ‘Turnout’ trainer is released in a new colorway, and the AW Ball returns in a sleek, all white style. The AW Puff trainer pairs a multi sport inspired tooling with uppers designed to resemble a puffer jacket.

Lastly, the AW Futureshell merges 00s era basketball materials with a 90’s style silhouette. The shoe is defined by its shiny one piece upper.

The collection will be available in selected stores, Adidas and Alexander Wang flagship locations, and online.
