The most iconic night of fashion is back and better than ever. The Met Gala will return on the first Monday in May as the annual celebration of the Costume Institute's upcoming exhibition, which 2024’s theme will embody 'Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion'.
What is the Met Gala 2024 theme?
This theme will not only celebrate the beautiful history of creating fashion but also delve into the sustainability of these designs. It will center around infamous historical pieces from Elsa Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and Hubert de Givenchy. According to an announcement from the museum, the exhibition will feature 250 historically significant pieces which are the 'sleeping beauties' as the pieces are far too fragile ever to be worn again but can always be admired for their exterior design.
What does this theme include?
The importance of fashion has been demonstrated in many eras of history. The historical elegance that surrounds this theme will be displayed in the most fragile of designs, is an Elizabethan bodice and a silk satin ball gown from 1877 by the American couturier, Charles Frederick Worth.
