5 Ways To Kick Start Your Running Routine

Ready. Set. Go.

POSTEDBYHANNAH MASSEY

Running can improve your lifestyle in more ways than one; improves your health, helps to keep you fit, relieves stress and can even boost your confidence. With all this being said, even though the benefits of running outweigh any negatives (if there are any), actually knuckling down and building a stable running routine can be quite hard.

But finding a running routine that is right for you doesn’t have to be difficult, all you need is some will power, a comfortable pair of shoes and an end goal, whether that’s to lose weight or to just generally improve your wellbeing.

1. Create The Perfect Playlist

It sounds pretty obvious but creating the perfect playlist can be the difference between a boring jog that you can’t wait to be finished with and a run that gives you an exhilarating rush. Compile a list of songs that really motivate you, whether it’s the same song on repeat or even your favourite podcast.

2. Hang On In There

The changes you want to achieve won’t happen straight away. With running comes patience. Whenever you feel on the verge of throwing in the towel, just remember that all training takes time. Hard work pays off and little by little you’ll see the changes.

3. Get A Friend Involved

Enlisting a friend could be a great way to ease yourself into running. Instead of seeing running as a chore, having a friend running beside you could become a great social activity. Running alongside each other chatting and encouraging yourselves to keep pushing adds a positive spin on exercising. If you don’t have any friends that like running, well then running clubs are a great way to meet new people with a shared interest.

4. Chose Your Outfits Carefully

We all like to wear nice athletic wear, because at least if we’re a sweaty mess from exercising, our outfit still looks great. And, there’s no denying that looking great makes you feel great too.

But don’t get distracted too much about what looks nice and what doesn’t. Try and ignore brand names and focus on what feels most comfortable for you, whether it’s a sports set, socks or a pair of sneakers. Before settling on your choice, make sure you’ve tried on several different sneakers first and always opt for comfort.

5. Make A Plan And Stick To It

Making a plan to accompany your running routine will help you create structure. Giving yourself a deadline to stick to can motivate you a lot more than you think. Whether you start off with something small like running for half an hour once a week, eventually building up to two or three times a week, design a schedule that works around you.
