5 Everyday Style Tips From Bridgerton
Embracing the fashion in Bridgerton just got so much easier!
The steamy period drama of Bridgerton might seem to be all about romance, but do a double take. Headlines stirred and fashion fans jumped onto their couches just to watch the show, when Bridgerton debuted, Pinterest even reported an increase in searches for a ‘soft royal aesthetic’ and ‘formal puff-sleeve dresses.’
The style in Bridgerton might not be historically accurate, but thankfully the show isn’t designed to be. Instead, the show sweeps you into a fantasy world where the viruses, plagues, and racial discrimination of the Regency era becomes non-existent. Instead, you’re greeted with fairytale romances, glittering balls, and clothes that will make your mouth water.
At this point, the style of the show is almost as juicy as Lady Whistledown’s pamphlets. If you’re sitting at home and itching to embrace ‘Bridgerton-core,’ it doesn’t have to be as difficult as ball gowns. Sometimes, finding the little details that make the style are simple enough.
So, if you want to live in your own fantasy world of Bridgerton fashion, there are five easy ways to give your outfit a dash of Bridgerton.
Trends for now…and the world of Bridgerton
1. It’s a Feathering-ton world and we’re just living in it
Start embracing feathers! The Featherington family was largely the main wearers of this extravagant detail, but that doesn’t mean they happened to be the only ones. From headdresses to fans, pearly white feathers were sported throughout the show.
Whether or not this trend was adopted from Bridgerton, we're now seeing it very much in the real world with designers like Christian Cowan and Alexander McQueen creating looks that might make a baby bird ask you ‘mama?’ If you want to dabble in this trend, this lovely one-shoulder, loose dress from Boohoo with a feather hemline is very much giving Diamond of the season…
2. Sparkling details
Embroidered or embellished details were popular on many of the fabrics in Bridgerton fashion. These embellished details might be embroidered pearls, delicate swirls, or other entrancing items added to the fabric.
One of the best examples of this was Daphne's Pearl picnic dress which really took away the need for jewelry. You can easily modernize this by picking up a pair of pearl-embellished jeans or even a blouse.
3. Hair accessories
While bonnets might be considered the historically accurate headdress of the Regency world, in Bridgerton we’re greeted with beautiful tiaras, ribbons, and floral fascinators that truly add a special ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the look. Embracing this on your own is almost as easy as snapping your fingers.
With bows and ribbons dancing across the runway and creating a cult following with designers such as Simone Rocha, embracing this coquettish and sweet detail from Bridgerton fashion is easier than ever.
4. Pastel Paradise
A fun detail of the show is the family colors that are sported by the different clans. These colors can range from jewel tones to lighter hues, but the overall cinematography and costume design of Bridgerton embraces a pastel world.
Perfect for spring and summer, the icy blues and lilacs in the show are a great way to bring romantic dressing into your own closet. If you’re a bit daring, embrace the beautiful pastels in colder months too in order to add a bit of brightness to your outfits–Queen Charlotte would approve!
5. Building an empire…of dresses
Empire-waist dresses are the style silhouette we most see in Bridgerton. This style of dress was common to the Regency period but definitely deserves applause for being subtly sexy and timeless.
With the waist hiked up to just below the bustline and the skirt flowing and loose, the style is great for anyone slightly self-conscious of their stomachs.
Designers seemed to echo in agreement with bringing this style back, from Prabal Gurung in 2022 to Coach we’ve all received plenty of options to show off our Bridgerton-core style.
