Hollywood’s golden girl, Zendaya, is set to take on the role of the late Ronnie Spector, the legendary lead singer of The Ronettes, in an upcoming biopic produced by A24. The film will be an adaptation of Spector’s autobiography, Be My Baby, and will be helmed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins.

In addition to starring in the film, Zendaya also takes on a producer role, alongside industry heavyweights Jonathan Greenfield, Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, and Tom Shelly. This marks another significant step in the Euphoria star’s career as she continues to expand her influence in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera.

Ronnie Spector, a defining voice of the 1960s with hits like Be My Baby and Walking in the Rain, personally selected Zendaya to portray her before passing away in 2022. The biopic will explore The Ronettes’ rise to fame, chronicling how the trio formed and eventually signed with Philles Records, the label run by Phil Spector. The film is expected to delve into Ronnie’s complicated relationship with Phil, who later became her husband, shedding light on the challenges she faced both professionally and personally.

With Zendaya’s track record of delivering powerful performances and Barry Jenkins’ signature storytelling style, the anticipation surrounding this project is already at an all-time high. As A24 continues to redefine modern biopics with a fresh and intimate approach, this film is poised to be a must-watch for music and film lovers alike.
