Your Favorite Brand, Based on your Wine Order

Cocktails come and go, wine and fashion is forever.

POSTED BY SYDNEY YEAGER

If you’ve scrolled on Instagram long enough, odds are you’ve probably come across posts and reels about what your drink of choice says about your outfit. For instance, an espresso martini might mean you’re a thrilling and modern seductress in a tight red dress, but a gin and tonic? You’re old-fashioned, home by ten, and in a shift dress.

While these posts are so fun to look at, share with your friends, and wonder whether they’re true or not– they overlook that we are more than a cocktail because cocktail orders come and go. In 2020 it was all about the espresso martini and then in 2023, it became all about the Aperol-Spritz. One thing that doesn’t change as easily is a go-to wine order.

Whether it’s a hot summer day and you’re thirsting after a rose or a cold winter’s night is begging you to curl up with a merlot, wine orders might vary depending on the season, but just like classic clothes, they’ll last you a lifetime.

Curious about what your favorite wine order says about you? We’ve picked six common orders and paired a popular brand below!

Merlot = Gucci

A deep, rich, and historically popular wine, Merlot exudes the class of Gucci. Perhaps it’s because of the rich red tones that Sabato de Sarno continues to show in his Gucci collections or the deep red in the logo, but I can’t shake the feeling Gucci shopaholics must itch for a glass of merlot to wind down.

Champagne = Chanel

Champagne is as much a French signature as the brand Chanel is. Both are a bubbling, feminine French classic that most women prize. Given the fact Champagne is served to top customers and Coco Chanel herself is attributed to saying,  “I only drink Champagne on two occasions: when I’m in love, and when I’m not.” It’s safe to say that the sophisticated women who frequent Chanel boutiques are ordering a cold glass of Champagne on their evenings out.

Chardonnay = Burberry

Burberry is a refreshing London classic with a reputation for tailored coats and buttery soft scarves. Its collections are always covered and praised by fashion magazines, but like a good Chardonnay, the brand doesn’t garner much more attention than always being appreciated. Those who shop at Burberry can easily be assumed to show off their classic and sophisticated palettes by ordering a glass (or two!) of this always-loved white wine.

Rose = Love Shack Fancy

Translating to the word ‘pink’ in French, it’s difficult to imagine any other brand but Love Shack Fancy being a favorite of those who order a crisp and fruity rose. The brand is floral, feminine and oh-so-pink. One more hint? Look at the dinner table of the Love Shack Fancy doll house in the Hamptons and you’ll find it adorned with beautiful pink bottles of this refreshing wine. It’s a wine perfect for the dolls who dress in this pink, floral dream of a brand!

Pinot Noir = Valentino

Valentino’s adoration for classic silhouettes and vibrant hues of red makes it easy to note this brand’s lovers would just have to order a warm Pinot on evenings out. The designs of Valentino can be playful, or dark (as the last collection in all black proved). A pinot noir is no different, with the flavor and weight depending on the winemaker.

Sauvignon Blanc = Loewe

Sauvignon Blanc can be an acquired taste, much like the brand Loewe. With Johnathan Anderson at the helm, the brand has risen in popularity and topped Lyst’s index for Q2 of 2024 given the sculptural designs and avant-garde floral details. This is much like the complexity of a Sauvignon Blanc, a wine with a light but intriguing body. So as women clutch their tomato purses on evenings out, you can be certain their other hand is holding a cool Sauvignon Blanc.
