Stephanie Scolaro is the founder and aesthetic practitioner at the London clinic La Beauty Dolls. We catch up with the beauty and discuss her life as an aesthetician and the rise of cosmetic fillers.

Thank you for allowing us to interview you, Stephanie. How was your day?

Good Morning!

My day has been very busy and exciting. Every day is very different in the clinic and that’s why I love what I do! Sometimes I can feel a bit overwhelmed but nevertheless, it’s always rewarding.

What made you decide to become an aesthetician?

I completely fell into the aesthetics industry. I never thought I would be able to inject anyone. I thought it was crazy at the time. I started doing hair extensions as a hobby alongside my business degree then that progressed to semi-permanent makeup and from there I started venturing into the world of aesthetics. It was by chance and a beautiful coincidence. I decided to continue my aesthetic work as I love helping people feel good about themselves. That’s what makes me happy and wake up every day.

What is day-to-day life like for you as an aesthetician?

Day-to-day life as an aesthetician is always interesting. Working as an aesthetician is a lot of work. It involves a lot of admin, customer inquiries, and following up with aftercare. There are so many roles I do - some days I am a graphic designer, an aesthetician, a content editor, an accountant. I love having my fingers in all pies.

What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of being an aesthetician?

My favorite part of being an aesthetician is helping my clients feel confident after visiting me and feeling more secure in their looks. I love meeting people of all different ages and cultures around the world. Our clientele is very diverse and I love that.

The worst part is I think is not feeling like I have a balance between my personal and work life. Even when I try to have a day off I feel like I always have to work.

Over the past few years, have you noticed an increase in fillers?

There has definitely been a rise in fillers over the recent years and the industry for sure is booming. I feel that more people are looking for a minimally invasive approach compared to surgery and are looking to achieve the same results without the risk that surgery can entail.

What advice would you give to someone who wishes to try fillers for the first
time?

I would always advise someone who is new to fillers to always start off with small amounts and to not go overboard. Less is more.

Getting a certain look with fillers can often be an alternative to surgery. Do you recommend people try fillers before undergoing surgery?

I would always suggest people start with fillers before diving straight into surgery of course. Fillers can be a good replicate to see if it’s worth doing a permanent procedure and it gives you an option to change something about yourself which can be dissolved if necessary. Fillers are temporary, surgery is forever.

Do you think social media played a role in the rise of fillers?

I think social media definitely has a huge impact and influence on people today. My clients are always showing me photos of celebrities/ bloggers that they aspire to look like. Social media is full of edited photos and clients come in wanting unrealistic results based on a filter. This makes our job a lot harder as we cannot exceed false expectations based on an edited photo. Social media isn’t real and our society needs to understand that.

It is amazing to see La Beauty Dolls' Instagram page and the before and after photos. What is it like making people feel more confident and better about
themselves?

Making people feel confident and better about themselves is the best part of my job. It’s rewarding and gives me a sense of purpose in knowing I can change someone’s life. There’s no other feeling I’d rather experience.

I love seeing my clients look in the mirror after a procedure and their reaction makes me so happy.

La Beauty Dolls offers a wide range of treatments. Can you tell us about
them?

We offer non-surgical procedures such as dermal fillers which can be used for non-surgical rhinoplasty, lips, chin, jawline, tear troughs, and chin. We also offer Botox for forehead wrinkles, bunny lines, and crows feet. And we offer buttock augmentation with filler and PDO THREADS for skin lifting. Our most popular treatment is AQUALYX which is a fat-dissolving procedure for the body.
