Umbro Projects Brings Back ‘90s Attitude For Fall/Winter 2019
Back To The Future.
The Manchester-native brand that brought sportswear into the mainstream of British youth culture, returns with a contrast of cutting-edge sporting silhouettes and urban feels from decades past.
The Fall/Winter collection throws it back to ‘90s skiers and snowboarders with color-blocks and loud tonal-clashes, whilst upholding Umbro’s characteristic detail and style. The vibrancy of the new collection radiates through the artful hybrid of old and new.
The textural contrasts on archival silhouettes launch the brand into a new era, while the logo-inscribed taping and new fabrics reinvigorate the brand’s rave staples. Some new staples of the collection include; street-style ski bombers and puffer jackets, bold polar fleece zip-throughs and directional boiler suits.
A highlight of the new collection is the brand’s fashion-favorite, the shell-suit, that is reinvented for fall with contrasting color sections in maroon or mustard. The leafy, fall hues easily match other pieces in the diverse range for natural layering, for example, the retro soccer tees, cotton jerseys, jacquard-patterned windbreakers, and cotton brush-back sweats. The collection also features an entirely new piece: a chunky knit sweater, complete with an abstract design of Umbro Match Day soccer scarves in black, crimson and white.
With an eye on its millennial, individualist consumer and another on their archives, Umbro Projects’ Fall/Winter 2019 line is a refreshing reminder that “what’s old can (absolutely!) be new again.”
