Trump F****ed Up The Whole World's Emotions, Science Has The Proof
One Orange Man screwing over our social media.
A Column by Haneen Wójcik
Politics is all over social media. It has been coined as too complex with dealings and laws at play that we just maybe can't wrap our heads around, so we leave it to the politicians to deal with. But it isn't. Politics is simple when you break it down. We decided to bring you along our political awakening journey with providing more politically fueled articles.
Recently, an analysis by the Pew Institute produced this graph:
The first thing that got your attention is we got a whole lot more angrier on social media after the 2016 election with the election of Donald Trump. We are more involved in politics now than ever and we are more open to sharing our political views online, well at least Facebook. The analysis did not include 'Likes' as it was too neutral. Both spectrums of the political scale are feeling the increase of anger, from 1% pre-election to 5% post election for the Democrats and 2% pre-election to 6% post election.
The disgusting truth is that: “Posts that expressed opposition to Trump received an estimated five times as many angry reactions as posts that did not express support or opposition toward any figure or group. When Democrats expressed opposition to Republicans, they earned six times as many angry reactions, on average" according to the analysis.
So in short, Facebook users are angry at both political parties, however they are more angry at any opposition towards Trump than opposition of neither party. Plausible theory is that Trump has a Tower full of trolls on social media expressing anger at anything that might say he's an orange idiot or his policies are leaning towards a fascist regime.
But in 2017, Pew also released a statistical review on how the world sees Trump, and you guessed, it was unfavorable. Only few countries view Trump as being positive with Russia leading the way, not at all surprised after the Helsinki meeting. But it goes beyond that still, Western European citizens who back Extreme Right Wingers such as the AfD, fascists of Germany, LOVE TRUMP.
Obama summed it up really well at his speech in South Africa recently. Politics is unescapable, and it is also making us more angry. Constant anger is not good for our mental and physical health. You might think this is so exaggerated. But if you had to constantly hear the despair and the torture your government is doing to its citizens and others, do you not feel rage?
The Pew Institute Analysis also found we comment more on social media posts so we want a voice in politics and have our say in how the world is run.
