Sculpting Skincare: Five Ways to Banish Face Puffiness

Mastering the art of reshaping your face.

POSTED BY ANDREI LUCAS

It's not the end of the world, even if Tom Ford has confessed to struggling with under-eye puffiness. It's a common concern that cuts across ages and genders, unfortunately contributing to our self-consciousness.

Lately, I've been taking the phrase "beauty is skin deep" quite literally. Nevertheless, I discovered how the puffiness saga is deeply intertwined with our skincare and lifestyle choices. Opting for a balanced diet, staying hydrated, intermittent fasting, exercising, cutting back on alcohol, and ensuring quality sleep not only boosts general health but also unveils a less bloated and puffy appearance.

I'm not aiming to preach lifestyle tips here, but I've curated a list of my personal favorites that mysteriously seem to work. It's a bit of a hit-or-miss, and what works for one might not work for everyone. That's why it's crucial to experiment and find the skincare wizard within you and discover your individual tricks.

Nevertheless, as a dedicated skincare junkie, here's me rating the toolkit that I use to achieve that sculpted look and, hopefully, bid farewell to puffiness, at least temporarily.

Malin+Goetz - Brightening Enzyme Mask

While not explicitly designed for depuffing, this 5-minute brightening gel mask that I discovered in 2020 has become a must-have. With pomegranate and pumpkin enzymes, it not only exfoliates but also brightens the under-eye tone, leaving me with an overall naturally contoured and radiant face. Using it at least twice a week and rinsing it with colder water has worked for me—10/10!

SkinProud – Frozen Over

A recent find, this uniquely 'cool' product with hydrating hyaluronic acid provides an icy, soothing hydration session straight from the freezer. Combatting tired, dull, or puffy skin, I apply it after an hour in the freezer, and it has contributed to an icy, chiseled look. The almost ice-cold sensation also aids in calming redness—10/10.

Contour Cube

Continuing with the ice-themed tools, the Contour Cube, an Australian-designed gem, effectively sculpts facial contours with ice. Very affordable, efficient, and with no cold fingers involved, it's like a mini cryotherapy session at home. Perfect for achieving a natural facelift and helping with pesky eye bags, if used in the morning, it's a surefire wake-up call—9/10.

Isla Gua Sha Cloud

It’s on the pricier side, but the soft marble material and non-irritating results make it worthwhile. Meant to tone, firm, and stimulate the skin, I suggest occasionally leaving it in the freezer for an hour, even though they don’t necessarily specify to do that. Applying retinol serum and working in upward strokes from the back of the neck to the hairline, along the jawline, cheekbones, and forehead center, it's a luxe addition to the routine. However, it can sometimes leave the skin red for a short while depending on how sensitive yours is—8/10.

Foreo Bear Mini Facial Toning Device

Not just about reducing puffiness, but this device is a multitasking marvel, toning, firming, and smoothing the skin. With sonic massage pulses that stimulate circulation, it instantly delivers a face-lift effect. Incorporating it into your skincare routine with serum or on dry skin will become addictive. Traveling with it is easy, but you can't forget the charger—9/10.

When it comes to skincare, the price range can vary significantly depending on your budget. Whatever you choose, try to read reviews and consult with your dermatologist or primary care physician for a comprehensive health review. Remember, it's not about fighting with yourself for a permanent farewell to puffiness but more about discovering what works for you.
