TikTok Is Upping Its Video Length To Three Minutes
What does this mean for the platform and its content creators?
TikTok just announced that the company will be altering the length of video uploads to three minutes, this change in feature applies globally. This update increases the current 60-second video length limit three times over.
The virality and addictiveness of TikTok has been hugely affected by its 60-second upload limit. It is no secret that the modern-day social media user has a short attention span, the time frame to grab an audience’s attention seems to decrease every year, so why increase the upload length?
The app’s product manager, Drew Kirchoff, revealed in a recent blog post that he believes the new upload time will allow for enriched storytelling and entertainment on the platform. Kirchoff also stated that the limit increase will mean that creators have more room for expression and creative freedom in their uploads.
This transition will occur over the next few weeks, TikTok creators will be notified when the update is available for them to utilize. Content creators appear to have welcomed this change with open arms.
The update means the death of ‘part 2’ culture, meaning that TikTok creators will no longer have to split videos into several parts, uploads like story-times or cooking videos will be completely revolutionized. This does save time and effort on both the audience’s part and the creator. That means no more seemingly endless scrolls through that random account on to find the third part of a true crime story you saw on your for you page.
Will it be a triumph or a failure? Stay tuned to find out.
