Spotted: The First Gossip Girl Reboot Trailer
‘We know we love her,’ and she’s finally back.
Hello, Upper East Siders. The highly-anticipated Gossip Girl reboot has released its first teaser-trailer, and in true Gossip Girl fashion, there’s some mystery to dissect. The reboot is coming to HBO Max this July, and the plot is being kept under wraps (probably waiting on Gossip Girl, herself, to reveal it.) However, the new version of the show will be more of a spinoff than a classic reboot, as none of the original characters will be returning. Rather, the beloved, mysterious gossip columnist will be checking up on the new generation of NYC socialites nine years after the OG blogger left the gig. One thing that will be returning? The familiar sound of Kristen Bell’s iconic Gossip Girl voice that narrates the trailer.
But, while the voice remains the same, the hidden identity of Gossip Girl is a brand new mystery. Since the original show ran from 2007 to 2012, it’s safe to say that aside from a new cast of characters, the Gossip Girl universe is in store for some modern improvements: AKA iPhones in every hand posting Instagram stories and Venmoing each other at the end of drinks with friends before grabbing an Uber home. In fact, in the trailer, Gossip Girl hinted at the changes over the years, herself, saying, “You’ve gotten so comfortable. Thinking you’re in control of your image, your actions, the narrative — but you forgot one thing. I can see you. And before I’m through, I’ll make sure you’ll see you too.”
So, while technology has blessed (and sometimes cursed) us with the ability to tweak our own personas and curate what we show the outside world, Gossip Girl is back to remind the Upper East Siders that she’s still the head gossiper in charge, and you’re never truly safe from being “spotted.” We’re pretty excited to hear what hot gossip she’s got in store for us.
