Maria Grazia Chiuri's Cruise 2024 Collection
This is a tribute to one of Mexico's most influential artists: Frida Kahlo.
Mexico holds a special place in Maria Grazia Chiuri's heart—a constellation of emotional destinations. Just like legendary surrealist artists Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Tina Modotti, Mexico resonates with her soul. The upcoming Dior cruise 2024 collection pays homage to the culture, prominently featuring the iconic Frida Kahlo.
Frida's clothes were a representation, proclamation, protest, and affirmation, transcending her physical body. The collection showcases prints, including butterfly motifs inspired by a Dior archive sketch. Suits honor Frida's style, while full skirts with traditional huipils evoke Tehuana customs. Collaborating with local artisans, Maria Grazia Chiuri presents embroidered dresses and shirts.
A pink dress reminiscent of Frida's self-portraits adds captivating fragility with intricate lace, collars, and butterfly jacquards. Pleated velvet skirts enhance the hips and depict butterflies, parrots, monkeys, and strelitzias on toile de Jouy fabric, reminiscent of Frida's paintings.
The Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, where Frida studied and met Diego Rivera, serves as the symbolic venue. Mexican feminist artist Elina Chauvet performs at this cherished location. Mexico, a country of the heart, symbolizes a feminine connection with nature through this emotional and vibrant cruise line.
