The Best NFT Marketplaces

Buy and sell digital artwork.

POSTED BY ANNA GRAHAM

NFT was Collins’ Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2021, and it stands for “non-fungible token”. Basically, an NFT is a digital asset that represents an object in the real world. They’ve become a highly popular way to buy and sell digital artwork, and you can purchase them online often using cryptocurrencies. It’s possible to buy art, music, virtual worlds and more.

An NFT marketplace is something like an Amazon of the digital realm. There are dozens of them out there, and often, they’ll have a specific niche or focus. Below is a look at some of the best marketplaces around when it comes to buying NFTs.

Opensea is the leader in NFT sales, so it’s definitely one of the places to be if you’re on the lookout for a good NFT. A whole variety of digital assets are available on the platform, and the platform is free to sign up for and browse the vast offering of NFTs on it.

You don’t have to be a mere buyer, however. The platform welcomes artists and creators. If you want to create your own NFT, you can by using a process called “minting” on the platform.

It’s possible to pay with more than 150 different types of tokens, so the platform lives up to its name. If you’re new to the world of NFTs, Opensea is a good place to start learning about these marketplaces and how they work.

One popular marketplace you might already be familiar with, especially if you’re into sports betting, is the Draft Kings marketplace. At this NFT marketplace, you can buy NFTs from some of the biggest icons in sport. Signed NFTs are just one example.

The marketplace has featured drops by Tom Brady, Naomi Osaka, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky and more. It’s a highly popular marketplace and drops sell out fast. If you’re into sports NFTs, then you should regularly check the NFT drops on the marketplace and when they’re going to be available because these ones sell out quickly.

The NBA and the Women’s NBA have made their venture into the NFT world with the NBA Top Shot Marketplace. On this platform, fans can buy collectible moments, such as video clips and play highlights, and art from the world’s top basketball leagues. You can search by tiers (including legendary and fandom), by players, by moments and more.

The marketplace is a closed one, which means it’s only possible to buy and sell on the marketplace. Signing up on the website is straightforward. Buying, likewise, couldn’t be easier. One of the best things about this marketplace is the affordability as well. It’s possible to buy NFTs for just a few dollars in some cases.

Rarible

Rarible, like Opensea, is another big hitter in the NFT marketplace space. Just like Opensea, you can purchase a wide variety of NFTs on there. It’s possible to create, sell or buy art, music, collectibles and other NFTs on the platform. Rarible is different to Opensea, however, in that you can only conduct transactions using the platform’s own Rarible token.

The idea behind the Foundation app was for it to be a no-frills way to sell art. The marketplace only launched in 2021 and aims to build a new creative economy, and has already sold more than $100 million of NFTs. Sales take place using Ethereum.

The community invites the artists to the platform, and any buyers only have to take the simple step of funding a cryptowallet with Ethereum to begin purchasing NFTs. Foundation’s format is straightforward enough for browsing artwork, but creating NFTs isn’t so easy. You’d be better off trying another marketplace for this.

Nifty Gateway

Nifty Gateway is something of an NFT marketplace for the elites. A lot of NFT transactions steal the show on here as soon as they begin to trend. Nifty Gateway has had a major hand in the sale of NFT artworks by artists such as Beeple and Grimes, and is built on the Ethereum blockchain.

Nifty Gateway is very clear about its mission: to make NFTs accessible to everyone. The company won’t rest until 1 billion people are collecting NFTs.

Super Rare

Super Rare stands out for being simple and user-friendly. It’s almost like an Instagram of the NFT world. Digital artists and consumers can interact directly with each other. The marketplace is built on the Ethereum blockchain and all transactions are conducted through ETH.

NFTs have been around for longer than it seems, but it’s only recently that the world of NFT marketplaces seems to have taken off, with fans looking for new ways to enjoy collecting art, music and other digital works. Why not visit these marketplaces and see if there’s anything on them you’d like to buy?
