Republicans Just Passed The WORST Bill For Women In A Generation
And "yes" voters celebrated by drinking beer.
Today is a very sad day for the United States. House Republicans voted to pass the American Healthcare Act, effectively kickstarting the process of repealing Obamacare and canceling the health insurance of what could be over 24 million people. This isn’t just any bill— it’s an actual death sentence for those who are poor, elderly or have pre-existing conditions for which they could be refused coverage (one is acne, btw).
One of the most alarming aspects of the bill is that it will defund Planned Parenthood for at least one year, according to the Washington Post.
"The American Health Care Act is the worst bill for women’s health in a generation,” said Erica Sackin, the political communications director for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
The bill also removes subsidies for abortion, so rape victims will no longer have an option for unwanted pregnancies.
“The bill also strips away essential health benefits including maternity care, and it undermines protections for millions with pre-existing conditions,” Sackin continued The bill makes it “harder to prevent unintended pregnancy, harder to have a healthy pregnancy, and harder to raise a family.”
The American Healthcare Act barely passed the House, with only 217 voting yes and 213 voting no.
Throughout the entire House meeting, Republicans appeared extremely untroubled, playing the theme song to Rocky as they walked into the meeting and cracking open beers and cheering after the bill was passed.
So what’s next for the bill? It will still have to go through the Senate to be voted into law, and approval there is predicted to be an even bigger challenge. Stay tuned for future updates.
