Ten Queer Rom-Coms To Watch This Pride

The ultimate queer rom-com list for when you want to watch something a little easier on the brain.

POSTED BY SOPHIE CLARK

Sometimes the wealth of serious, hard-to-digest queer movies can be overwhelming. Sometimes you arent sure if a movie will be too serious for your mood. With this list, we've taken the risk out of picking a movie and only given you the happiest rom-coms.

Bottoms (2023)

After its release last year, Bottoms became an instant cult classic. It has a fantastic cast of primarily queer actors and insane writing that calls to mind John Waters in levels of absurdism.

Saving Face (2004)

This movie is the one for you if you just want to watch the cutest rom-com ever made. This movie has charm, wit and plenty of representation.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

A classic for a reason The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is an ode to drag queens. There are parts of the movie that haven't aged fantastically but the love at the heart of it transcends generations.

But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)

But I'm a Cheerleader gets smarter with each watch. Under the cotton candy exterior lives a plot of queer acceptance, community, and love

Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)

This movie is easy watching, and a salve for the brain. Nicholas Galitzine's second film on this list doesn't go as fast as Bottoms. It's there to provide the serotonin you get from any of your guilty pleasure rom-coms.

The Watermelon Woman (1996)

We love The Watermelon Woman. A documentary-style look into lesbianism, race, and romance. It approaches what could have been a serious topic with levity and humor, it's a treat to watch.

D.E.B.S. (2004)

D.E.B.S. is like if Charlie's Angels or Totally Spies were queer. It's such a fun film about spies with all the cool outfits and action you could want. Plus it stars Devon Aoki and who doesn't want to watch her in anything.

Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same (2011)

Despite the crazy name, this is a very real, very good film. It's more rom-com than sci-fi if that's not your style. Most importantly it's made without any irony, just with weird lesbians at the helm.

The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love (1995)

This movie is to queer cinema what 10 Things I Hate About You is to straight cinema. It's sweet, it's clever, it's funny, and it gets you right in the heart.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995)

It could be argued that this is Patrick Swayze's best film. He plays his part so earnestly it impossible not to be moved. It's an ode to the queer community, and when you watch it you can feel how much love was put into every element.
