Tamara Ralph Fall 2024 Couture: Say Hello to Romance

In an ode to Paris and the love affairs that begin there.

It is Tamara Ralph’s third season under her namesake label and the designer was feeling romantic. Her Fall 2024 Couture collection reads as an ode to Paris and the love affairs that begin here in the city of love.

The opening dress was adorned in houndstooth check and was paired with a pillbox hat and veil. This was a nod to the black-and-white imagery of the Nouvelle Vague. Fishtail skirts and peplum jackets had a role to play, as did sweeping necklines and draping to enhance the silhouette.

It all felt very Carrie Bradshaw thanks to the idealized vision of Paris that is centered throughout the collection. The vision you and I perhaps would commonly associate with the city.

While the label ‘standout’ could be applied to any piece, velvet gowns in black with shimmering embroidered in vertical waves will really catch your attention - much like the Eiffel Tower at night as it gleams.

Other nods to Paris include allover mirror designs that could have alluded to the lavish Art Deco interiors of the city’s eateries. Embroidered mesh gloves and lace stockings likely pointed towards the Moulin Rouge, a must for citizens and tourists alike.

Elsewhere, a minidress sewn all over with black baquette sequins, complete with a cone bra, felt reminiscent of the showgirl aesthetic of the past also.

For those who are not fans of fashion inspired from the past, pleated chiffon palazzo pants, which were paired with an embellished tweed jacket hemmed with ostrich feathers, felt perfect for present day walks through the city with a book in hand. For evening outings, a pair of white sequin pants with a top crafted from a multitude of chains of pearls, and a feather-trimmed minidress and maxi-boots felt perfect to impress.

The final pieces concluded the romance Ralph was keen to represent with draped pieces in duchesse satin in pink and red taking centre stage. One piece had two blossoms aligned with the bust of its sweetheart neckline. Another had a long train embroidered with a scattering of life-like rose blossoms. What can we say? Our hearts are aligned.
