Shopping search platform Lyst has published its 2020 Conscious Fashion Report, based on its analysis of search data relating to sustainability and conscious fashion. Researchers collected search data from Google and Lyst between February 2019 and February 2020 to analyze trends relating to sustainability in the fashion industry, and the results suggest “the beginning of a shift in shopping behaviors,” according to the report.

Not only have the numbers of searches for ‘vegan leather’, ‘upcycled fashion’ and ‘sustainable activewear’ increased over the past year, but shoppers have also shown a growing interest in vintage pieces. Lyst notes that Taylor Swift wearing a vintage Chanel jacket on the cover of January 2020 British Vogue triggered a 74% increase in searches for vintage Chanel jackets, while searches for vintage dresses on Lyst increased by 40% in the 48 hours following Jennifer Aniston’s appearance at the 2020 SAG awards, where she wore a vintage Christian Dior by John Galliano gown.

We’re moving into a new era now, where we’re all becoming more and more aware of the environmental impact of fast fashion, and our growing interest in vintage and sustainable pieces reflects that. To find out more about sustainable fashion, head over to the Lyst website to read the full 2020 Conscious Fashion Report.
