“I’m honoured to be able to contribute to such a powerful film about such a historic and tragic moment in American history.”

Jazmine Sullivan has released her moving contribution for the "Till" soundtrack, "Stand Up". "Till" tells the historic and heartbreaking story of the 1955 lynching of Emmett Till in Mississippi through the eyes of his mother Mamie. “I’m honored to be able to contribute to such a powerful film about such a historic and tragic moment in American history,” Sullivan said.

Written especially for the upcoming film, as a tribute to both Emmett and his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, Sullivan says the lyrics focus on how Mamie “found her voice and purpose in so much turmoil.” Raw, unfiltered, uncensored emotion pours through the lyrics, the rich vocals and the beautiful, lush soundscape.

Co-writer, directer and executive producer Chinonye Chukwu stated, “It was a genuine dream come true to have Jazmine Sullivan pen and perform “Stand Up” as the end credit song of "Till"A passionate artist and activist, Jazmine delivers an anthem for justice and hope; one that ignites a fire to rise up for all people whose lives have been senselessly cut short because of America’s deep rooted and white supremacy.”

Both the track and the film have a clear focus on Mamie, because not only is it a re-telling of racism and injustice, "it is also a love story between Mamie and her son," Chukwu states. "Black women are so often erased in society at large, particularly in history and our contributions presently, in terms of the civil rights movement and the freedom movement. That got me excited about digging in and contextualising the story in that way."

TILL will debut in select theaters in the United States on October 14, followed by a nationwide release beginning on October 28.
