Single-use Plastic Eliminated From VF Corporation Brands

New environmental efforts target the reduction of excessive and harmful packaging.

Sustainability. It’s the hottest topic of conversation right now, and more and more companies are vowing to reduce their impact on the environment. We’ve heard about the plastic straw conundrum, and now the focus has moved to fashion. Next to join the plastic-free party is VF Corporation, who announced they will put an end to single-use packaging such as polybags by 2025.

Owning brands such as The North Face, Vans and Dickies, the pledge includes redesigning bags for reuse or recyclability, eradicating the habitual throwaway culture. This leads on to a zero-waste plan that will be put in place by April 2021.

The fashion industry is a huge contributor in global pollution and plastic plays a huge part in this. When receiving a clothing order, we often think to ourselves, was all this packaging necessary? The answer is no, and it seems VF corp have listened. Not only is it needless, but it’s also an easy swap-out - take a look at Zara’s incentive using all cardboard. As well as this, many clothes themselves are made from polyester, which is a whole other issue affecting the planet.

While all brands owned by VF corp will follow the new guidelines, some are going out of their way to do even more. Timberland has pledged to have a net-positive impact on nature by 2030 in attempts to regenerate agriculture. This means the fashion giant will commit to source 100% natural materials like cotton from renewable sources to work towards a circular economy.

We hope that other brands cotton on to this plastic reduction plan, as it’s essential to work together and reduce our carbon footprint.

Keep up the great work!
