Simone Rocha's New Collection Was Inspired By Children Of Lir

Yes, Irish folklore and fashion can go hand in hand.

POSTED BY SELINA DUFNER

To Simone Rocha, every runway show tells a story. In the case of her latest London Fashion Week show, she tells the story of the Irish legend Children of Lir

"It's a really old fable that everyone in Ireland knows," explains the Irish fashion designer. "The children become swans for nine hundred years, across three different lakes. And when they come back as human forms, they pass away. I began loosely basing my narrative on that." The famous ballet Swan Lake is also based on that particular Irish tale.

Knowing the inspiration behind this collection, you can see hints of elegance with black and white feathers in some of these majestic dresses. To emphasize the Children of Lir's royal status, the models' makeup consisted of gems, pearls and crystals.
