Signs That Your Skincare Routine Isn’t Working

Make some positive changes.

If you feel as though you are just not seeing good enough results from your skincare routine, then you are certainly not alone. That being said, there are things that you can do to try and make sure that you make some positive changes for the future. Take a look below to find out more.

Your Routine has a lot of Steps

You might think that the more steps you have in your routine, the better, right? This isn’t true, unfortunately. If you use too many products, then you may find that things end up working against you and this is the last thing that you need. Some ingredients actually cancel out the effects of others, and this can cause your skin some degree of irritation. You may find that you experience dryness and that your skin becomes way more sensitive as well. It’s also possible that some products will stop others from working at all. This is the last thing that you need, so it’s vital to make sure that you put in the work to stop this from happening.

You’re Breaking Out

Breakouts happen. That being said, if you’re not finding any relief after following your skincare routine for a few weeks, then there’s a chance that it’s not working enough for you. Whatever you’re using might not be removing the sebum and oil on your skin. If you are using products that strip your skin too much, then this can cause your skin to go into overdrive. For this reason, you have to look out for products that contain ingredients that are capable of fighting acne. This can include salicylic acid.

You’re Noticing New Discoloration

Discoloration can happen because of hormones, or increased sun damage. You may find that you experience a large increase in brown spots or that you experience hyper-pigmentation. Either way, this could be a sign that you are having some kind of reaction to the ingredients in your skincare products. Stop whatever you are using and make sure that you use a vitamin C serum if possible. Having the right products is super important when it comes to tattoo aftercare as well, so put in the work to make sure that you are using the right creams on your skin. If you don’t then you may find that you don’t heal properly or that you experience dryness.

Itchiness and Irritation

Skin that is itchy or irritated isn’t happy skin. It may be that you are having a bad reaction to an existing product or that you are experiencing contact dermatitis. If you want to figure out what the culprit is then you need to be using a gentle cleaner or a moisturizer. Each week, then try and add one product back in. If you can do this a few days at a time, then you will soon find that it is more than possible for you to find the root cause. You can then go ahead and make the appropriate changes as you need, to stop future breakouts.

While it’s true that there are plenty of signs that some skincare products aren’t just working, keep in mind that a solid skincare routine is more than just the products you use. It’s how you live your life. It’s what you eat, such as a Fasting-Mimicking Diet, how much water you drink, and what nutrients you get into your day. What you consume each day is major, but there are still other things that go into it as well such as your daily activity and exercise routine, how much sleep you get, the temperature of the water when you shower, and so much more.

Our bodies are tricky, there are almost always going to be multiple contributing factors when we’re not getting the results we want.
