Ways to play with the lifestyle.

Starting the road to being a digital nomad is the hardest bit. But once you’ve found ways to make a sustainable income, you can find ways to play with the lifestyle. Some people like to go from place to place every few weeks, but others want to settle in one location for a few months or longer. When it comes to settling in one location for a while, what do you need to think about?

Think About the Costs

Usually, if you are settling in one place for a while, it's pretty much the equivalent of moving house. This means you'll need to think about those costs for the best moving company and transportation. So you may have to save for a while before you make the move. If you are hopping from place to place, you may only have a suitcase and the clothes on your back, but now you are going to one location for a longer period of time, you can now consider the opportunities to settle for a bit longer, which means that you could now invest in a few more essentials. But of course, these things come with upfront costs.

Making it Feel Like Home

Going to a new location to settle is always scary. The benefit you have when you are a wandering digital nomad is that you don't need to settle in any one place, and if you don't make any friends, it doesn't matter, because you will be going somewhere else soon anyway. But if you are looking to settle for a while, it's worth reaching out to people who are in the same position as you. Ex-pats can help you to settle in, but also give you some insight into the new location. There are mobile apps that can link you with other ex-pats so you can find your way around this new location or you've got someone on the same wavelength.

Be Mindful of Your Mindset

Moving to any new location can come with a variety of emotions. When you move from place to place, you don't really have time to let your mind settle, but now you are in a new location and you plan on staying there for a while, you may start to feel stressed or anxious. But you have to be mindful, be kind to yourself, and practice any form of self-care that will benefit you.

Learning to Enjoy a Slower Pace of Life

This is the biggest benefit of settling. Being a digital nomad means that you go from location to location, and you have no time to stop and smell the roses. This is the best thing that you can do because it allows you that opportunity to breathe, to experience something a bit more beneath the surface. Being a digital nomad should be about finding new locations and experiencing new things, but when you don't have time to even unpack, you begin to focus on the work and nothing else. It's such a simple thing, but unpack and it will help you make this place your new home, albeit for a short period.
