Scotland To Become First Country To Put An End to Period Poverty

Providing free sanitary products to all.

POSTED BY HANNAH SMITH

Lawmaker Monica Lennon submitted a bill for the government to provide free pads and tampons to all, this law was officially passed by the Scottish Parliament on February 25.

Sanitary products such as tampons and pads are currently provided for free in universities, schools, and colleges in Scotland; this has massively helped their education as girls who cannot afford sanitary products are no longer missing school during their monthly period. It can cost up to £8 per month to pay for the necessity that is tampons and pads, and choosing between your period or school is the harsh reality for many girls.

The actual date of when this law will be put into action is yet to be revealed, however, we will be keeping a close eye out.
