Saving The Planet One Mural At A Time With Converse
Artwork with an environmental impact — we love to see it.
Converse has a new project on their hands that you (and the planet) are going to love. “Converse City Forests,” features a series of thirteen murals across the globe, that use photocatalytic paint — often dubbed “smog-eating paint” — which when applied to surfaces, uses light energy to breakdown air pollution and consequently, protect people from harmful gases.
Converse City Forests is a collaborative project between Converse and local artists. So far, we’ve seen artwork from TRK and Sorravis Prakong (Bangkok) and Dawid Ryski and Maciek Polak (Warsaw), the murals of which, are uniquely beautiful and independent of one another. According to the Converse website, the mural in Bangkok was inspired by TRK’s appreciation of Thai Art, and Prakong’s love of calligraphy. Whilst, Warsaw’s mural draws inspiration from Ryski’s geometrical style and creative partner Rolak’s interest in skateboarding and graffiti. We are yet to catch a glimpse of the other 11 cities’ (Sydney, Sao Paulo, Johannesburg…) murals.
The project has so far, had the environmental impact of planting 930 trees. A praise-worthy statistic, and one which suggests Converse is making some serious steps towards their “ambitious environmental goals” (of which you can read more about on Good On You). Good for the planet, and good for us all — good move Converse!
