Q&A with Saint Stacy: The Journey Behind Feel Like Myself
Vulnerability, bold choices, and owning her story.
With her EP Feel Like Myself, Saint Stacy delivers a masterclass in raw emotion and cinematic storytelling. Anchored by the confessional anthem “Before I Did It,” the project captures the duality of vulnerability and empowerment, showcasing her ability to weave deeply personal narratives into melodies that resonate universally.
As an artist who thrives on contrasts, Saint Stacy embraces the tension between introspection and bold self-expression. Whether rediscovering who she is or stepping into a version of herself she’s always wanted to be, her music explores the thrill of taking risks and owning the consequences.
In this exclusive conversation, Saint Stacy reflects on the patchwork of experiences that inspire her songs, the lessons she’s learned from producing her own music, and how Feel Like Myself became a turning point in her creative journey. From defiant energy to introspective clarity, she invites listeners to join her in embracing the process of truly feeling like themselves.
Saint Stacy, ‘Before I Did It’ feels like a confessional anthem—raw and unapologetic. What was the moment or experience that sparked the song, and how did it feel to lay that story down in the studio?
Most of the songs I write, including this one, are very often inspired by a lot of different things. Sometimes it’s drawn from my experience, sometimes from things happening in other people’s lives, or a mix of both. I love creating stories that feel like a patchwork of ideas and emotions, small pieces assembled together into something meaningful.
The EP is titled Feel Like Myself. When you were writing these songs, did it feel like rediscovering who you are, or was it more like claiming a version of yourself you’ve always wanted to be?
It’s kind of both, actually. Working on these songs was a big challenge for me. Alongside writing, I also learned how to produce and record for example, things I hadn’t done before. It was a mix of revisiting what I knew and stepping into new territory. I think we all try to be a better version of ourselves.
Your lyrics cut deep, but they’re paired with such soulful melodies. In Before I Did It, was the goal always to strike that balance between vulnerability and empowerment?
Yes, definitely, I really love contrasts, and I think there’s something powerful about pairing vulnerability with empowerment.
There’s a cinematic quality to the EP—like each track could score a pivotal scene in someone’s life. If Before I Did It were the backdrop to a moment in your own story, what would that scene look like?
That would be a moment where I’m about to make a bad choice, but then something clicks, and I realize what’s at stake. It’s that second of clarity when you decide to turn back and take a different path.
They say the best art comes from a place of honesty. Was there a moment during the creation of this EP where you hesitated about sharing too much, and how did you push past it?
I’m not really into sharing too much personal things, but most of the time, the songs start from something that touches me, whether it’s from my life or someone else’s. So it’s always something personal, but not necessarily just about me.
The phrase Feel Like Myself is so universal yet deeply personal. Who or what makes you feel the most like yourself, and how did that influence this project?
For me, it’s about being in a place where you feel in phase with your life, when things aligns with what you want to do and achieve.
Before I Did It has this triumphant "owning the consequences" vibe. How do you balance the thrill of bold choices with the weight of their repercussions, both in life and in your music?
Honestly, I don’t overthink it too much. It’s about taking chances, and that’s what the song is about, just going for it and owning whatever comes next. It’s a vibe I like to keep in my music and my choices.
The EP seems to explore themes of transformation and self-realization. What’s a moment in your career or life that really made you say, “I’m finally feeling like myself”?
I’ve kind of always felt like myself, whether things are going well or I’m going through a rough patch. Taking risks and making mistakes are part of the process, and I think that’s all just part of being myself.
There’s this energy in your music that feels defiant yet introspective. If you could send one message to listeners who are on their own journey to feeling like themselves, what would it be?
Don’t stress it too much. Feeling like yourself is a bit like finding your keys, it’s always in the last place you look, and sometimes you just need to chill and let it come to you!
Music often says what we can’t. If Saint Stacy from a few years ago heard Before I Did It, what do you think her reaction would be?
I would definitely be proud of myself! Since I started Saint Stacy two years ago, I’ve learned so much, from producing my own music to developing my visual identity and directing my videos. It’s a blend of creative and technical skills that I never thought I’d be able to handle a few years ago. And there’s still so much more to do!
As she gears up for the release of her debut album and a European tour, it’s clear that Saint Stacy’s story is just beginning. And if Feel Like Myself is any indication, we can expect more honesty, empowerment, and unforgettable music from this rising star.
