Fashion inclusivity: Embracing Individuality in Today's Industry

Why fashion should celebrate everyone.

POSTED BY FEARNE TOWSON

The fashion industry today is ever-changing and evolving, it's become more than just a business that sells clothes but a medium for which we can share progressive views and encourage a celebration of individuality.

However, fashion has famously been known for not being inclusive and excluding marginalized groups such as models, designers, etc. It's important that we embrace change and find ways to empower everybody, after all, everyone needs clothes!

The May Vogue 2023 cover "Reframing fashion" reflects this message particularly well with the use of disabled women from all different backgrounds whose achievements were celebrated in personal photoshoots catered to each of their individual needs. I think it's important as creatives that we don't cut corners just because it's easier. Instead, we should find ways to include everyone to give our work a realistic look that feels achievable for everyone, rather than using the stereotypical "sample" sized models for the same repetitive looks.
