A unique take on the brutal hippie-cult killings.

Quentin Tarantino, who said last year that he would only be making two more films before retirement, is creating a movie about the Manson Family. According to Hollywood Reporter, the Pulp Fiction and Hateful Eight director will write and direct the currently untitled film, which concerns the notorious killings of five people carried out by the fanatic followers of Charles Manson in the 1960’s. Deadline also reported that Margot Robbie has been approached to play Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, who was brutally slaughtered by the Mason Family in 1969.

Any news surrounding the film has been kept hush-hush, but it’s rumored that there are already a number of A-list celebs attached. The Hollywood Reporter believes Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt and Samuel L. Jackson have been approached.

Public fascination about the Manson family hasn’t decreased since the murders first took place. The popular podcast You Must Remember This devoted an entire series to Manson and his entourage, while the story of the killings has been depicted in Emma Cline’s novel The Girls and the TV show Aquarius. If the project moves forward, it will be Tarantino’s first film based on true events, and it promises to have a “unique take” on the story.
