Put Power Behind Your Pastels

Once again, early predictions for the hottest trends in 2021 point towards the fact that pastels are powering the styles. Honestly, that’s not exactly surprising given that it’s hard to imagine a time when we don’t love the bubblegum soft, sleek finish that these gentle hues can bring to our wardrobes.

This season, however, it seems we need the softness of pastels more than ever, and there have already been sightings of top names like Madison Beer and Ana De Armas proving how good you can look when you get pastels right. The question is, how exactly do you go about making a pastel outfit pop when you’ve never managed it in the past?

# 1 - Never forget to factor skin tone

For many of us, pastels can seem like a no-go because they ‘wash us out.’ But, the thing to remember is that you have the full scope of the (admittedly pastel) rainbow to choose from. And, we fail to believe that every possible colour looks washy on you.

Considering your skin tone during your deliberations can prove especially useful for ensuring that pastels pop on you no matter what. Consider, for instance, that lighter pastels and creamy tones work best with pale skin, while darker skin tones are always going to suit richer pastels, like green and blue. Simply make sure that you factor for these allowances by always trying your pastels before you buy. In no time, you should start to see which tones work and which don’t, for easier outfit success moving forward guaranteed.

# 2 - Don’t be afraid to mix pastels

Like denim on denim, mixing pastels can seem like a mistake, but that’s actually not the case. 70s fashion styles, in particular, were almost entirely founded on the double pastel pairing, and you know what? It works! Again, you need to remember that pastels, unlike denim, come in all shades, so there’s nothing to stop you from power pairing so long as you consider the options that are going to work together.

Pastel pink and blue is, obviously, a classic combination, while dusty creams and yellow are always going to speak to each other. Far from merging into an unflattering mess, pairings like these are guaranteed to make pastels go ‘pop’ in ways that you simply didn’t think were possible.

# 3 - Add contrast with accessories

Pastel mixes can be great, but you’ll still want to add a little contrast. Specifically, many argue that black and white additions are the best possible way to perfect pastels, which is good news considering that black masks are taking the forefront for functional fashion right now.

Equally, you could play around with splashes of red shoes or scarves, the vibrancy of which is guaranteed to offset pastels in a way that’ll prove why you should have started enjoying this style a long time ago.

So, what are you waiting for? Invest in an outfit fit for the catwalk by buying yourself some pastels today!
