Peet Dullaert Fall 2024 Couture: Work with the Body

As comfort is key.

POSTED BY EMMA FISHER

Peet Dullaert is a rare entity in the fashion sphere. It all started in the 2023 season when the couture designer decided to work with the body of women rather than against it. Now, he is continuing this trend, which is calling out for other houses to do the same.

To achieve this for consumers, Dullaert believes that you must be comfortable in clothes and your own skin. “In my opinion, the job of couture is just exploring possibilities of that architectural approach to clothing, which in the end for me is always defined by comfort. It’s the best gift you can give yourself.”

While this may not be easy for some, he aims to help. For his Fall 2024 Couture collection, he has crafted structured jackets, craft-intensive knit pieces, and curve-hugging dresses in a lineup fit to impress. Each piece exudes confidence as did the models adorned in his pieces.

He opened his show with Danielle Slavik, a retired house model for Cristóbal Balenciaga from 1964 until the couturier’s 1968 retirement. He wanted to emphasize that this was for everybody no matter your age - and she looked stunning. What a statement to make, we say.

It also seemed as if his aim was to give women the choice of how to fill their wardrobe while complementing their bodies and self. For evening wear, choose a beaded black dress that appeared to be spliced with a blazer at the neckline or a column dress that appeared as if a bolt of yellow silk had just been wrapped haphazardly, until you saw the little corset closure at the back. Our personal favorite!

If dresses are not your thing, how about a fitted sleeveless vest with flourishes at the shoulder that resembled a puff sleeve but also the inner construction of a sleeve? There were plenty of slacks to choose from, which were just as beautiful.

“This is for me what fashion really is about,” the Dutch designer said. “It’s really that expression of individuality, next to the clothing, that doesn’t need to fit a certain narrative.”

He has given us the gift of choice, of confidence, and of comfortability. What more could you want?
