Oscar 2022 Red Carpet Recap with Donna Leah Designs
Hollywood’s most important nights.
While many watch the Oscars for the entertainment aspect, designer Donna Leah, founder of Donna Leah Designs, is one of the many who are also watching for the fashion. Celebrities recently paraded the red carpet outside of the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles ready for the 94th Academy Awards. It was a night to show off the hottest looks for one of Hollywood’s most important nights.
“What I found interesting was the number of long sleeve metallic gowns. Certainly, one of my favorite looks because it’s extremely glamourous and looks great on everyone,” says the designer. “This look crossed a wide range of VIPs from Amelia Warner to Olivia Colman and Lupita Nyong'o. I think this is a look that we will be seeing more of.”
Going for the Gold
Amelia Warner, English musician, composer, and wife of Jamie Dornan wore a dazzling gold sequined gown with floral detailing on the red carpet. This masterpiece is from designer Giambattista Valli. Form-fitting and extremely chic, the gown featured long sleeves and a jewel neckline.
If a fashionista is looking to go for the gold in a long sleeve metallic gown, a favorite from Donna Leah Designs is the Tiger style which is a core piece in the evening gown collection that recently launched.
Sublime in Silver
British actor, Olivia Colman, exuded elegance in a silver metallic gown from Dior haute couture. “What makes this look so interesting is that at first glance it might appear to be a simple flowing skirt and a sophisticated high neck, but it’s actually a dramatic design that makes Colman look confident and exactly what is needed for a glamorous Hollywood moment,” says Donna Leah. Colman added more glamour with diamond drop earrings and coiffed beehive that was styled in a modern yet classic way.

Daring and Dramatic
The Prada dress that Lupita Nyong’o wore to the 94th Academy Awards has been described as an actual Academy Award and fireworks. The actor’s floor-length gold dress with an open back and long sleeves was indeed spectacular. “I just love how the gold sequins covers every inch of the dress. It’s very editorial and you can see her sparkle down the entire red carpet!” shares Donna Leah. “We can see that the waist of the dress features longer, streamer-like sequins that drape off of the dress. That type of movement is very dramatic and perfect for this event. Dotting the dress are pink floral embellishments that add texture and interest to the gown.”

Statement Style
Actor Marlee Matlin who recently started in "CODA" wore a satin red Monique Lhuillier dress. The gown featured a small, yet dramatic train. She completed the bold look with red open-toed heels, a statement necklace, and matching nail polish. “One of the best ways to make a statement is with a bold and beautiful color. There was a lot of red on the red carpet this year and I find it so inspiring,” says Donna Leah.
