Remember the trend wavy brows? Imagine that, but on your mouth. Introducing ‘Octopus Lips’ – or ‘devil lips’ – the weird new Russian beauty trend that has girls hooked.
Allegedly pioneered by Russian plastic surgeon Emelian Braude, the wave-like lip shape involves inserting filler into the lip lines to create a soft zigzag effect. Admittedly, it’s impressive. In a warped inhuman sort of way…
Social media has had mixed reactions to the viral trend, with some Reddit users labelling it “oddly aesthetically pleasing” and others calling it “an exotic form of herpes”. Yikes. Now for the plot twist. It’s not actually confirmed whether these psychedelic lips exist or not, with many of the looks created using Facetune or other editing apps. Plastic surgeons argue that achieving this style through fillers is logically impossible, and any attempt could spell disaster and irreparable damage.
Dr. Krystyna Wilczynski confirmed this when she told Dazed Beauty “You cannot change the anatomical shape of the lips like this.” She further stated “Filler injected inappropriately could end up in a blood vessel, causing blockages and leading to necrosis (death) of the tissue.” Probably best to stick to Facetune for now…
