Nike X Virgil Abloh Launch New Track and Field-Inspired Designs
When sport meets high fashion.
No stranger to collaborating with Nike, Virgil Abloh has launched his newest collaborative effort, the track and field collection, at Paris fashion week.
Abloh is known for his unique eye for detail, distorting and providing a fresh take on classic Nike silhouettes, such as the Air Max 97. Taking his collaborative efforts one step further, Abloh and Nikes collection has taken inspiration from a more human icon: the Athlete.
The Off-White collection, which made its debut on the runway at Paris Fashion Week, included classic footwear styles that Nike have become so famously known for such as; the Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite Flyprint, Nike Zoom Fly SP "The Ten," Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit and two conceptual designs based on the Zoom Fly and Waffle Racer silhouettes respectively.
The collaboration underscores a mutual commitment shared by Nike and Abloh: to champion athletes everywhere. The runway show featured female track and field athletes such as, Dina Asher Smith, Vashti Cunningham, Cecilia Yeung, English Gardner, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Nafi Thaim, Caterine Ibarguen and Rénelle Lamote, which reflected the inherent energy of sport — and effortless style— that fosters fashion's embrace of sportswear.
Abloh said, ““Sport, like fashion, shares a common language that seeks to unite cultures, break down barriers and celebrate the power of the human spirit,”
“This season, I was inspired by the voice of the athlete and the power of sport to impact positive and transformative change globally.”
