Nike Released a New Campaign for Equality, and We're Obsessed
It’s directed by Beyonce collaborator Melina Matsoukas, so you know it’s gonna be good.
It’s been interesting to watch how the fashion industry has responded to Donald Trump’s presidency. From New Balance to Raul Solis, brands and designers are choosing sides, and fashion and politics are more intertwined than ever. Now, Nike just declared its political position on Donald Trump without ever mentioning his name.
The athletic powerhouse launched its new “Equality” campaign with a video staring LeBron James, Serena Williams, Kevin Durant, Megan Rapinoe, Dalilah Muhammad, Gabby Douglas and Victor Cruz. The 90-second spot encourages us to use the values of sportsmanship in everyday life, and the effect is absolutely stunning.
This campaign definitely appears to be taking a political stance declaring, “Here you’re defined by your actions. Not your looks or beliefs. Equality should have no boundaries."
While Trump’s presidency is creating significant divides around the world, Nike is using its influence to help us see beyond skin color, religion, sexual orientation and disability.
