Nike Celebrates Hong Kong Culture With New Air Max 95 “HKG 2020”
The run up to “Air Max Day” brings some serious heat.
Set to be premiered by Hong Kong boxer Rex Tso Sing-yu at his next boxing tournament, Nike’s new Air Max 95 honours Hong Kong’s essence and its links to sneaker culture.
In homage, the sneaker is inspired by the Bauhinia, the flower of the Bauhinia blakeana orchid tree, which was named after a former governor of Hong Kong. Today, the Bauhinia is a representative symbol of the strength and perseverance of the people of Hong Kong. The colours of the flower – magenta and fuchsia – act as the colorway for the sneaker, representing blessings and opulence. “HKG” replaces the traditional “Air” tag, with the sole’s “HKG 852” imprint maintaining the encompassing theme.
As Air Max Day approaches, Nike has begun to release exclusive drops in select markets worldwide, meaning there’s a bunch of ultra rare sneakers to get your hands on. Or attempt to, anyway. Many of the drops are limited edition and won’t be remade, skyrocketing both appeal and desire. So you know some kind of cheat code for us to secure a pair, or even just 1 shoe, let us know, ye?
The Nike Air Max 95 “HKG 2020” will be available from January 21 on nike.com for a retail price of $1,199 (approx. $155 USD)
