New 'The Batman' Teaser Takes Gotham Into Darker Territory
The Bat is Back.
A new first-look teaser for Warner Brother’ ‘The Batman’ has just dropped, taking the beloved comic book character back to some of his darker roots. Directed by Matt Reeves (Planet of the Apes), the superhero flick features a stellar cast, namely Robert Pattinson in the lead role of billionaire playboy by day Bruce Wayne, and the crime-fighting vigilante Batman by night.
Other names starring alongside the caped crusader include Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman), Paul Dano (the Riddler), Jeffrey Wright (James Gordon), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone) as well as Irish actors Barry Keoghan (Officer Stanley Merkel) and Colin Farrell (Penguin.)
The director’s behind-the-scenes creative team include Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Dune,” “Lion”); Reeves’ “Planet of the Apes” production designer, James Chinlund, and editor, William Hoy; editor Tyler Nelson (“Rememory”); and Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran (“1917,” “Little Women,” “Anna Karenina”). The music is by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (the current “Spider-Man,” “Jurassic World” and “Star Wars” films, “Up”)
Written by Matt Reeves and Peter Craig, the trailer shows off a darker, more neo-noir rendering of the infamous Gotham City returning the franchise to the more sombre tone of the original comics and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. The trailer also teases a romance between Catwoman and Batman, an element of the character played up in both Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. Having been played by Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway, it’s set to be exciting to see what direction Zoe Kravitz takes the character in.
The Batman hits theatres on March 2nd 2022.
