It’s no secret that putting on an outfit that I love is the deciding factor of my mood in the morning. If I hate my outfit, I hate everything. When I love what I’m wearing, my day always feels like a success.

But what if that outfit isn’t just about feeling good in the moment? What if it’s actually a small step toward the life you want to have? The life we want is easily in our grasp; we just need to start living it.

The outfit we choose is more than just the clothes we put on. It’s an extension of our identity. I personally don’t identify as a slob, so why am I dressing like it?

It’s time I start embodying the person I want to become, and that begins with wearing clothes that make me feel like the best version of myself. If you’ve ever heard the idea of thinking and acting like the person you want to be, this is just an extension of that. Dress the way your ideal self(with your ideal life) would dress.

I know it would probably be much more practical if I were to dress for the life I have: going to class, grabbing my morning coffee, writing in my bedroom, all of which can be done in sweatpants(an option I opt for more often than not).

But even if you’re not yet living the life you want, you can still always dress the part! Wear those classy trousers that you’d wear on your first day at your dream job. Put on jeans, even if no one will see them. Dress like you’re attending the Met Gala for a casual dinner.

Dressing for the life you want isn’t about being unrealistic; it’s about believing you’re allowed to want more. That confidence starts with what you put on in the morning.
