“Our Little Secret” Cements Lindsay Lohan’s Place as the Queen of Christmas
Lindsay Lohan returns as Netflix’s Queen of Christmas rom-coms.
Lindsay Lohan’s new romantic comedy Our Little Secret has dropped on Netflix in time for Christmas, and fans are calling it her best film in years. Coming two years after her role in Falling for Christmas marked a career comeback, Lohan has secured her position as Netflix’s go-to talent for festive films.
Netflix Embraces the Hallmark Format
Our Little Secret is just one of many new Christmas titles to hit the global streamer. Fans of Hallmark’s campy holiday genre films have turned to Netflix every year for a slate of new releases, with 2024 giving us Twas the Text Before Christmas, A Royal Date for Christmas, and Bringing Christmas Home.
This time of year sees the internet awash with the latest Christmas-themed entertainment. Streamers such as Prime Video and Hulu have full catalogs of festive films, while the top 20 slots for UK casino players include Action Boost Christmas and Bass Catch Christmas. These Christmas slots feature festive symbols, seasonal soundtracks, and bonus rounds designed to capture the holiday spirit, adding a touch of winter magic to the gaming experience.
Lohan’s latest outing is set to carry on the tradition, with the film brimming with 2000s nostalgic charm reminiscent of Anyone But You.
What is Our Little Secret About?
Our Little Secret is a rom-com that follows former partners Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), whose unlikely Christmas reunion sparks a battle of the exes. Ten years after their breakup, the two are in new relationships and plan to meet their partners’ families for the first time at Christmas.
However, Avery and Logan show up to learn that their new partners are siblings, forcing them to spend the holiday together while keeping their past a secret. The film descends into hilarious chaos, with a series of misunderstandings snow-balling to a memorable and heartwarming conclusion.
Surprisingly, the film manages to break free of the standard Hallmark template, with risque humor reminiscent of 2000s films such as Meet the Parents. The film is buoyed by welcome performances from its ensemble cast, including the delightful Kristin Chenoweth as the overbearing mother.
Lohan Delivers Yet Again
The Netflix Christmas movie has helped to spark a resurgence for Lindsay Lohan. When Falling For Christmas was released in 2022, the film quickly shot to number 1 on Netflix’s global streaming charts. The film marked the first lead role for the former Mean Girls star in 10 years, and the beginning of a three-film contract with the streamer.
After following the film with Irish Wish in 2023, Lohan’s latest indicates that the star has returned to form after a prolonged hiatus from the silver screen. Reviewing the film for Empire Magazine, he states that, Lohan’s “romcom-dominance cannot be denied,” with the film offering an “old-fashioned screwball premise.”
The star also provided a memorable cameo in 2024’s film adaptation of the hit Mean Girls stage show as the adjudicator of the climactic Mathletes competition. She will also reprise her role as Anna Coleman in Freakier Friday in 2025, starring alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the body-swap comedy.
With Our Little Secret already soaring to the top of Netflix’s global charts, fans of festive rom-coms can’t go past this one. Expect holiday hijinx, comical misunderstandings, and the welcomed return of the newly-crowned Queen of Christmas.
