People Are Upset About Kylie Jenner's New Collection — Here's Why

First, cultural appropriation and now this.

POSTED BY ALLISON EDWARDS

This week, the Kylie Shop (kyliejennershop.com) got a few new items when the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan launched her camouflage collection, and now, it’s facing major backlash all over the Internet. First, her line was called out for cultural appropriation: Media outlets declared Kylie as the first person to rep the camo bikini trend despite the fact that it’s been worn before, most notably by Destiny’s Child in their “Survivor” music vid. Immediately after that controversy, New York-based label PluggedNYC stepped out and accused Kylie of copying its designs.

PluggedNYC’s creative director Tizita Balemlay took to Twitter Thursday night to reveal a series of email exchanges with Kylie’s team that showed PluggedNYC initially provided samples to the youngest Jenner. Then, Balemlay went one step further and outed Kylie on Instagram, with a caption that read: “I am the influence *drops mic. Copy & Paste down to the shoes I used on my models.”

Kylie has yet to comment on the accusations, but it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time King Ky has been under fire. Kylie was previously called out by makeup artist Vlada Haggerty over the same problem — a Kylie Cosmetics lip campaign copied the artist's imagery without giving inspo credit.
