I Have A Soft Spot for Sportswear With A Past
And Kith got it so well.
Some clothes look better when they come with a story. That's what makes vintage sportswear so appealing to me: the faded graphics, the strange color combinations, the feeling that a jacket has lived an entire life before finding its way into your wardrobe. Kith's new Vancouver collection taps into that feeling with a very particular piece of history: the Vancouver Grizzlies.
The collection celebrates Kith's Vancouver store opening, combining the former NBA team's identity with utility outerwear and West Coast-inspired layers. The standout is a leather jacket created with AVIREX, but the more interesting question is how much nostalgia a wardrobe actually needs.
The Jacket Is Giving '90s Basketball Collector

The Vancouver Grizzlies existed from 1995 until the franchise relocated to Memphis in 2001. Their original branding still has a distinct visual appeal, and Kith has put it on a piece that practically demands to be noticed.
The Kith and AVIREX leather jacket brings together bold team imagery and statement outerwear. It's exactly the kind of piece that could make an otherwise ordinary outfit feel considered. My instinct would be to keep everything around it relatively simple and let the jacket carry the personality.
What interests me most is the difference between buying a piece because you love its design and buying it because you recognize the logo. The best sportswear collaborations manage both. You get the reference, but you also get something you would want to wear without explaining its history to everyone in the room.
Not Everything Needs a Giant Logo

The Dejan Utility Jacket offers a quieter alternative, with nylon construction, contrast shoulder detailing, and multiple pockets. It's a different kind of appeal from the AVIREX piece, leaning into functional-looking outerwear rather than making basketball nostalgia the entire conversation.
The Wyona Sweater brings Vancouver artwork into a wool knit, while the Nelson Quarter Zip and Nelson Rugby give the collection more familiar layering options.
These are the pieces that make the capsule interesting as a wardrobe rather than simply a commemorative release. I tend to find the most convincing collections are the ones that leave room for different personalities. Not everyone wants to walk around looking like a limited-edition campaign.
When Does Nostalgia Become a Souvenir?

That's the line Kith has to navigate. A recognizable logo can make a new garment feel connected to another era, but nostalgia alone doesn't guarantee that you'll reach for it next year.
The graphic tees and Grizzlies caps offer easier ways into the collection, while the Vancouver Opening Keychain is firmly in keepsake territory. Each has its place, but the leather jacket and knitwear have a stronger chance of becoming part of someone's regular rotation.
The collection launched October 19 through Kith's Monday Program, online and in-store. Check Kith for current availability and product details.
For me, the appeal of fashion history is never just the reference. It's what happens when an old identity finds a new life in someone's wardrobe. The logo might get you looking, but the clothes still have to earn their place.
