JW Anderson Brings Drama In Volumes In His FW20 Show

Featuring strong silhouettes and blown-up classics.

POSTED BY SANYA MAHAJAN

From coats larger-than-life to dramatic bubbled hemlines, JW Anderson’s FW20 collection was a dynamic display of edginess of 20’s fashion. Featuring Edwardian puff-shoulders, leather shawl collars, black dresses with spooling sleeves and balloon shaped leather handbags inspired by speedball boxing bags that guarantee to grab social media’s attention, “Nouveau Chic” works on the parameters of taste.

Anderson revealed that his inspiration behind the range was “The ability to take up space. What it takes to enter a room and the impression one can make with a coat”.

Well, here it is then! The collection was a master-class in playing with proportions, but it wasn't just the voluminous silhouettes that took the spotlight; sweater dresses, hybrid dress-jumpers with contrasting capes and holographic pieces were a much-needed dramatic take on women’s fashion. Bringing the glittering tinsel-tiered dresses from the roaring 20’s with a twist of 20th century modernism, the range brought to life new forms and ideas of existing framework but in a new form, reminding us of something we haven't owned before.

Leading a cast of models, Kaia Gerber ended the show in a long black front-button skirt paired with a spooling collar sweater and a throbbing soundtrack that lent a perfect intensity for the show.
