Recalibrating Fashion: James Corbin & MC Barnes Host LFW Inclusivity Panel
Size inclusivity, industry change, and the power of community at Colours Hoxton.
On 19 September, London Fashion Week welcomed a vital conversation at Colours Hoxton with Recalibrating Fashion’s Inclusivity Lens - With Purpose and Action. The panel tackled pressing issues in the fashion industry, from size inclusivity to the need for authenticity over token gestures, creating a space rooted in lived experience and a drive for real change.
James Corbin and MC Barnes led the discussion, guiding panelists through their personal experiences in the industry and exploring actionable ways to create positive change. James, looking incredible in a fluffy, bird-like coat, shared moments from his own career, including times when he was called for modelling jobs but asked to “fit into” clothing that didn’t match his size — a challenge many models face, highlighting the need for brands to produce inclusive sizing rather than expecting bodies to adapt.
The panel featured Chris Amfo, Maximilian Raynor, Alessia Golfetto, Dr Soljana Cili, Sara Brown, each sharing insights on how the industry can evolve for the better. Guests in attendance included Michaela Stark, Ivorian Doll, Kadeem Ramsay, Ezra Elliot, Brandon Nembhard, Adhel Bol, Raphaela Odunwo, Skye Lukowski-Standley, and Wilfred Cisse, representing a diverse and engaged fashion community.
The audience was fully involved in the conversation, asking panelists questions, sharing opinions, and offering ideas on how fashion can be more inclusive. A key takeaway from the panel was the need for the industry to embrace all body types. While there is a clear market for fashion that caters to larger sizes, systemic bias and adherence to conventional beauty standards often limit representation. The discussion emphasized that inclusivity is not only ethical but also a business opportunity waiting to be seized.
The panel flowed seamlessly into celebration, with DJ sets from AMBRR and Chano Gillett bringing energy and joy to the room. The night was both a call to action and a reminder of the power of community to reshape culture, proving that fashion can be thoughtful, inclusive, and exciting all at once.
