Is Puma Becoming More Relevant Than Adidas And Nike?

POSTED BY DANIJEL VUKOJA

Everything that is dope right now has the name Puma on it or is in collaboration with Puma. The label really stepped up his game and is some serious competition for Adidas, Nike and all other sportswear brands. Although the label from a tiny town in Germany still has some kind of underdog position. But with their latest triumph on Paris Fashion Week with Fenty x Puma, the time has come to ask the question: Is Puma seriously rolling up the fashion field from behind? Here are possible reasons why:

Puma x Stampd
With designer Chris Stamp, who created a sophisticated take on streetwear with his near-namesake brand STAMPD, the Puma x Stampd collaboration is infusing classic styling cues into a fresh and contemporary style.  Exploring the boundaries of fabric and fabrication with inspiration from deep ocean blues and architectural structure, this collaboration brings a broader, bolder range of athletic designs.

Fenty x Puma
Oh lawrd. We think it’s clear that we are a huge fan of this collaboration. Puma says: “Rihanna’s unstoppable spirit, creative energy and prowess both on and off the stage make her the perfect representation of the PUMA brand.” Yet, is the question: how much of that shit is she even doing herself? Even though we cannot answer it, the collections are dope af.

UEG x Puma
Created by designer Michal Lojewski, UEG borrows the Italian acronym for “USE E GET-TA” or “use and throw away.” Playing on the concept of consumption through graphic design, UEG responds to the temporary nature of today’s existence and underscores the essential values of unification, communication, and awareness. For AW16, the PUMA x UEG collaboration invokes references to astronauts and echoes the metaphor of cosmic exploration – to rise above the ground. Mixing clean silhouettes with a bold graphic language of emergency buttons and prints both the apparel and footwear designs reflect the desire to be free of gravity’s restraints.

Puma x Trapstar
Forged from underground subculture, this collaboration with London-based lifestyle brand Trapstar takes its influence from iconic cinema, photography, music, and contemporary art. Transcending the ethos of the brand through designs that follow true inspiration and is not necessarily just following trends, but rather creating them. Dope!

In the end we can say that Puma is kinda becoming more relevant, because it’s just stepping up its game and having dope ass collections and all these designer collaborations. Here is what’s going on: they try to dictate the fashion instead of following trends. But it’s not something that Adidas and Nike have not done before, because clearly they were the first one’s to do it.  The question is actually not if they are becoming relevant, because they are, the question that is still remaining is: how long will it take Puma to beat their competition?
