IRENE SJ YU's SS17 Collection Is Spellbinding

The latest range brings together oriental magic with Western streetwear.

POSTED BY ALLISON EDWARDS

IRENE SJ YU’s SS17 collection “Love Spells” fuses together ancient oriental tradition with a contemporary Western aesthetic. Throughout the range, East Asian spells for blessings of love, peace, health and happiness are cast on the garments alongside Western slogans, creating an intentional juxtaposition between the two unique worlds.

The clash of cultures is also visible throughout the collection’s silhouettes, prints and detailing. Japanese kimono robes are fitted in leopard patterns while crop tops are adorned with spells written in Kanji.

By utilizing a myriad of layers, textures and patterns, “Love Spells” evokes the spirit of femininity while still maintaining a distinctly streetwear vibe. Overall, IRENE SJ YU utilizes fashion to add a bit of playful superstition to today’s skeptical society. Scroll through the entire range below, and shop the looks here.
