Introducing Adidas Originals X Dragon Ball Z
Adidas meets anime in its latest collaboration of heroes’ vs villains.
Iconic Japanese anime series Dragon Ball Z and adidas have joined forces to welcome their second instalment collaboration this week. Unlike their previous collection, the collaboration features the Deerupt and Prophere silhouettes which celebrate another iconic showdown from the franchise’s history – Gohan vs. Cell.
Known as the true finale to the Cell saga in the Dragon Ball Z canon, Gohan and Cell’s battle spanned over 11 episodes in the television series and culminated in becoming one of the most beloved anime series of all time.
Adidas pays homage to the legendary TV saga, which first aired in 1988, in a reimagined trio of sneakers by incorporating key elements from the show into their designs.
Expressing the contrasting identities of these iconic characters, the Deerupt silhouette is presented in a tonal electric purple colorway, referencing Gohan’s distinctive battle suit, while reflective graphics on the base material beneath the mesh overlay pay homage to the fighter’s transformation into Super Saiyan 2 form. With an eye for detail, adidas include finishing touches to the silhouette such as a Dragon Ball hidden beneath the heel patch, while collaborative adidas X Dragon Ball Z logos can be found on the sock liner.
Next up, the Deerupt model pays tribute to Gohan’s nemesis, Cell, assuming the distinctive green colorway of his exoskeleton, contrasted with his purple wings as a stand out statement. A hidden Dragon Ball can be found on the tongue, whilst Cell’s name can be found printed on the tongue’s reverse – creating the perfect tribute to one of the Dragon Ball franchise’s most infamous villains.
Releasing worldwide on October 27, both shoes in the release are presented in special collaborative packaging with an individual Dragon Ball printed on the box. To cop your pair stay tuned to adidas Originals for the release.
