How To Look Put Together In Loungewear

I’m always trying to look put-together. To me, this usually means throwing on a pair of jeans or something a little less than comfortable. But jeans aren’t always the answer, especially on days full of errands or casual plans.

The problem was that on my comfy days, I’d reach for old, sloppy sweatpants that left me feeling like a total bum. But I think I’ve finally perfected the formula for loungewear that’s wearable in public.

Instead of choosing the baggiest piece of clothing I own, I now opt for more structured silhouettes. Trading my cuffed, extra-large sweatpants for more slim-fitting, straight-leg ones has made all the difference. I also simplified the details, choosing clean elastic waists over drawstrings or bulky pockets.

Coordination is key. When I wear more casual pants, I pair them with a cute sweater or layer a jean jacket on top to keep the look polished. Or, if I’m wearing a simple tee, I like to have fun with my bottoms, throwing on more playful, colorful pants.

Lastly, the accessory aspect of our outfits should never be omitted, even when we’re dressing casually. Wear your statement jewelry and your chic handbags (opposed to my old go-to: carrying five different things in my hands because, well, who cared since I was wearing sweats). Choosing flats or loafers instead of sneakers can also instantly elevate the vibe of your casual look.
