What Is a Coffee Enema?
A coffee enema is a type of colon cleanse that is typically used in alternative medicine. The process is similar to a saline enema, however, you are using freshly brewed (cooled) coffee to insert into the rectum instead.
What Are the Benefits of a Coffee Enema?
The biggest benefit of a coffee enema is the presence of caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine in the coffee. The combination of these stimulates the smooth muscles and the production of an enzyme called glutathione S-transferase.
This enzyme opens up the bile duct in the liver which helps to release more bile and stimulates a better digestion process.
How To Do an A Home Coffee Enema
First things first, you need to prepare the coffee by using organic coffee beans with filtered, distilled, or spring water. Use about 2 cups of water to 2 tsp of coffee if it is your first time.
Then you need to:
-
Add the (cooled) coffee to the enema bag with equal parts distilled water, keeping the clasp closed
-
Lubricate the tip of the enema kit with coconut oil
-
Insert the tip into your rectum, and slowly release the clasp and let the coffee flow out slowly
-
Hang out for about 10 minutes with the mixture inside your colon
-
Empty the colon as you can
-
Repeat the process one more time
Remember that it is common to feel discomfort during this process, and it will get easier the more you do it.
If this is your first time, there are some things to keep in mind. It can be a bit messy, so keep extra towels around just in case.
-
Have a light snack first, this will help to reduce the feelings of nausea
-
The liquid should be warm, not cold nor hot
-
Make sure there is no air bubble in the enema hose, as that can feel quite uncomfortable
-
Lay on your right side as you wait for the effects to happen, the coffee moves up the transverse colon on the left side and up to the portal vein of your gallbladder and liver on the right
-
Massage your stomach, especially when you experience waves of nausea
