Hayley Kiyoko And FLETCHER Are Giving Us What We Didn’t Know We Needed
The two LGBT+ singers tease their new song ‘Cherry’ on Tik Tok.
After teasing a potential collaboration between FLETCHER and Hayley Kiyoko and seeing the positive response from fans, the singers confirmed their collaboration on a new song titled ‘Cherry’ in a Tik Tok post this week. The video also includes a short clip of said song, making fans even more excited for its yet unannounced release date.
Hayley Kiyoko started out her career as an actress, appearing in the 2011 Disney Chanel film Lemonade Mouth, which is where many fans first heard of Kiyoko. In 2015, she released her single ‘Girls Like Girls’, shaping an entire generation of queer women, especially queen Asian women, who now have the opportunity to grow up listening to her songs and finally feel seen. “It’s the immediate judgement that people have, and the stereotypes that they have on a female who likes women”, stated Kiyoko on why she was silent about her sexuality for a long time. She has since released numerous songs which revolve around queer experiences and is regarded as an icon particularly in the lesbian community, all of which gained her the nickname ‘Lesbian Jesus’.
Similarly, FLETCHER’s music has started to be celebrated more, as she unapologetically sings about loving women with songs like ‘girls girls girls’, becoming a role model for so many LGBT+ people.
Therefore, having both queer singers come together to collaborate on a song is what many queer fans did not know they needed and cannot wait to listen to.
