Happy Easter Virginia, Weed Has Been Decriminalized In Your State!
Puff puff pass my dudes.
As a result of a failed attempt to legalize the drug earlier this year, Virginia is now officially one of the 16 states in the US that have decriminalized Marijuana, the new legislation went into effect this weekend just gone.
Gov. Ralph Northam’s is behind this new law that changes the once criminal charges for possession, into a simple $25 civil penalty. In full support of this transition, this moment in history will also kick start a study of the legalization of marijuana with the eventual release of a report of findings and data to assess.
The Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring said that many people in Virginia thought the move would never happen, it is an incredibly important step forward into full legalization of marijuana,“...we cannot stop until we have legal and regulated adult-use".
Many legislation supporters believe it will have a positive impact on the state, in particular, it's African American population, who are charged with an unreasonably excessive amount of drug crimes.
Marijuana possession in the Commonwealth of Virginia will now only be a $25 offense after Gov. Ralph Northam moved Sunday to decriminalize bud.
