Gucci Turns Heads For FW18 With Chunky Crystal SEGA Sneakers
What a show.
If you saw anything from Gucci's Fall/Winter 2018 “Cyborg” show yesterday, you'll definitely notice the pun in our headline. Ever avant-garde designer Alessandro Michele sent models down the runway carrying incredibly accurate representations of their own heads, as well as wearing horns, third eyes, a snake and a super-cute little dragon pet. Alessandro, in the words of Die Antwoord, I fink u freeky and I like you a lot.
Another honorable mention, of course, has to go to those statement chunky sneakers, appearing in multiple colorways, elevating the simple dad sneaker into a reference-heavy, if ugly, work of art. The base of the design drew heavily on the hiking boot, mashing it up with a patchwork of panels and a bulked-up sole.
The last thing you would expect to work with a pair of hiking boots would be an extravagant crystal chain, and yet the criss-crossed addition of gemstones, literally strapped around the shoe, tied in a very-Gucci baroque feeling. Another unexpected detail was the SEGA reference, with the tongue logo imitating the retro gaming font. Well, if you think about it, Sonic the Hedgehog and the rest of the gang loved a good pair of chunky shoes.
We can't wait to see the hype around this release. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Next up, Chanel and Farfetch team up to bring the boutique to your laptop.
